Aroused and Appalled: Venturing into the Erotic Abyss

Going into Suck Mommy’s Piss Flaps, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. This was my first time picking up a book by Layla Moon, and the title alone hinted at something wildly unconventional. I knew I was in for a dark, erotic journey, but nothing could have prepared me for the unapologetic mix of horror, humor, and empowerment within its pages. Moon’s style is bold and chaotic, pulling me into a world that felt both unsettling and strangely liberating, led by a protagonist unlike any I’d encountered before.

Layla Moon’s Suck Mommy’s Piss Flaps is a daring, genre-bending novel that dives deep into the world of Tylisha—a goth anti-heroine whose morbid career as a hitwoman is as twisted as it is unapologetically empowering. The story plunges us into Tylisha’s bizarre reality, from her haunted home filled with mementos from her victims to her relationships that challenge conventional boundaries. The novel is filled with unsettling, erotic, and darkly comic moments, creating a narrative that is both chaotic and captivating.

Tylisha, far from a stereotypical spooky goth girl, is a queer, polyamorous hitwoman with a mission: she targets predatory men who refuse to respect boundaries. Her motivation gives the novel a revenge-fueled undertone, a dark sense of justice against those who can’t understand the word “no.” Her home, filled with bones, preserved body parts, and other grotesque trophies, is a reflection of her life’s work—each piece a testament to her brand of brutal empowerment.

Tylisha’s relationship dynamics are unconventional yet powerfully affirming. She is in a polyamorous relationship with her girlfriend, who in turn has a girlfriend, who also has a trans husband. This setup isn’t presented as an object of intrigue; instead, it’s simply part of the narrative, adding depth to Tylisha’s sense of community and connection without overshadowing the core of her story. This approach creates an authentic and inclusive representation, challenging normative boundaries while keeping the focus on Tylisha’s own fierce autonomy.

Moon’s tone is both direct and darkly humorous, with Tylisha’s voice brimming with confidence and a sense of controlled chaos. The occasional grammatical errors and rough phrasing add an unpolished, almost confessional quality to the writing, fitting well with Tylisha’s rebellious, unapologetic personality. The horror elements in the book are graphic and visceral, yet the writing carries a hint of self-aware humor that makes the protagonist’s macabre lifestyle oddly relatable. Readers are drawn into Tylisha’s warped sense of normalcy, where violence and domination are balanced with her uncompromising personal code.

The erotic scenes in Suck Mommy’s Piss Flaps are equally bold, emphasizing Tylisha’s control and dominance. Moon weaves them in seamlessly, making these scenes less about titillation and more about reinforcing Tylisha’s power and autonomy. They underscore her unyielding attitude toward life and love, adding to the novel’s unapologetically intense atmosphere. I do, however, wish that there were other words used than “throbbing” to indicate her pleasure.

Tylisha is written as a complex, exaggerated archetype: a goth femme fatale with a deep sense of purpose. Despite her macabre hobbies, she’s more than just a caricature. Moon creates her with depth and authenticity, building her into a character that, while disturbing, is also sympathetic in her mission to claim power from a world that so often denies it to women and queer people. Tylisha’s self-assurance and complex relationships make her feel multidimensional, even as she indulges in her bloody trade. Her role as “Mommy” in her world is both a declaration of control and a subversive reclamation of power.
